Kite Runner Review

I came upon The Kite Runner after having read (and loved) A Thousand Splendid Suns. Khaled Hosseini writes novels which I consider to be great works of literary fiction. The Kite Runner explores themes of friendship, family and culture.

Amir, the story's protagonist, is from a wealthy family in Afghanistan. He befriends his family's servant son, Hassan. Hassan stands up for Amir, while Amir reads stories to Hassan. This friendship remains until Amir betrays Hassan and never takes the chance to redeem himself.

Amir flees with his father to America and attempts to move on from his betrayal while keeping with his cultures customs in a new world. He never truly gets over his betrayal and is given a chance to make it right.

I will not get into the details of the plot points. I will say that Hosseini does a great job of exploring the inner struggle of betrayal, the struggle of mixing cultures, and the joys and downfalls of friendship and family.
