Black Swan Review

The thing to remember when watching Black Swan is that it is a Darren Aronofsky film, and it doesn't disappoint in that aspect. If you have not seen another Darren Aronofsky film before, check out Requiem for a Dream. You will never look at drug addiction the same again.

In similar fashion, you will never look at the ballet the same again after watching this movie. This movie stars Natalie Portman as Nina, a ballerina who is after the lead part in the ballet Swan Lake. Nina goes through the transformation from White Swan to Black Swan as she tries to embody the role.

Nina is obviously a psychologically disturbed girl, though the cause is never determined. She struggles with her overbearing mom and with her own inner thoughts which often manifest as a vision of herself.

This movie is visually disturbing, increasingly so as it progresses and Nina becomes more Black Swan like. Don't watch this expecting a family friendly movie about the ballet, but rather expect a typical delve into the human psyche a la Darren Aronofsky.
